Project Overview
This 12.5 ton hoist replacement was performed on a top-running single-girder overhead crane serving the crusher building at the Exshaw cement plant. The crane required overhaul due to recurring breakdowns. Robust Engineering Services delivered complete mechanical removal, installation, millwright execution, and engineering certification in compliance with Alberta OHS Code and CSA B167 standards. Konecranes Canada supplied the new hoist and managed electrical commissioning.
12.5 Ton Hoist Replacement Scope
▪ Hoist replacement including removal of the existing unit and installation of new 12.5 ton hoist on the overhead crane.
▪ Full certification of repairs and modifications per Alberta OHS Code, Sec. 73(1) and CSA B167.
Execution
The old hoist was secured, disassembled, and lowered through the roof hatch using mobile crane and telehandler support by Mammoet. Preparation for the new hoist included clearance checks, scaffold adjustments, and trolley modifications. The new Konecranes hoist was lifted, landed on the bridge girder, and torqued to specification. Electrical work included cable layout, festoon systems, and enclosure upgrades.
Engineering & Certification
Load testing and commissioning aligned with CSA B167-16 (R2021). The mechanical scope was certified by a professional engineer in accordance with Alberta OHS Code requirements. For related overhead crane services, see our engineering services.
