Robust Engineering Services Ltd. is hiring a C.E.T. Engineering Technologist to support overhead crane and lifting work across southern Alberta and eastern British Columbia.
You will split time between the field and the desk: site inspection and measurement, reverse engineering, SolidWorks design and FEA, drawings, and clear technical writing — with direct mentoring from a P.Eng. in a small firm where your work ships.
Location: 11979 40 Street SE, Unit 116, Calgary, AB
Workplace: hybrid (office / work-from-home / on-site)
Type: full-time
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Site inspection and field measurements
- Occasional out-of-town travel for jobs (required when scheduled)
- Reverse engineering of existing equipment and products
- 3D modeling, FEA, and drawings in SolidWorks
- Technical writing: reports, memos, tenders, and related documents
- Review specifications, standards, and regulations
REQUIRED
- ASET member in good standing (C.E.T.)
- Minimum 4 years relevant experience
- Strong SolidWorks: weldments, sheet metal, assemblies, advanced mates, drawings, welding symbols
- Solid mechanics of materials (steel): loading, stress, strain, deformation
- Ability to analyze and recreate existing products from first principles
- MS Office and Windows power user
- Comfortable with site work: climbing access, manual handling, and full-day field shifts when required
- Hands-on with hand and power tools
- Valid driver’s licence; willing and able to drive for work and travel as needed
- Easy to work with: collaborative, professional, and steady under real job pressure
- Get-it-done mindset: honest, owns outcomes, takes responsibility, and learns from mistakes
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience with cranes, rigging, lifting devices, or material handling
- Welding, machining, mechanical assembly, or heavy-duty work
- CWB, welding visual inspection, or NDT
- Basic CNC, additive manufacturing, or laser cutting
- Basic electrical or instrumentation knowledge
WHAT WE OFFER
- Competitive salary
- Hybrid work and slightly flexible regular hours (e.g. family / daycare realities) — scheduled client jobs and site commitments still require reliable follow-through
- Direct P.Eng. mentoring and real experience in a niche sector
- Gym membership
- Travel and vehicle expenses covered as applicable
SELECTION PROCESS
Shortlisted candidates may be invited to a short paid work trial (about 3 to 5 days) on a defined task such as reverse engineering, SolidWorks modeling/drawings, or a field measurement and technical memo. The trial is paid at an agreed rate, time-boxed, and does not guarantee a job offer. Either party may stop at the end of the trial with no obligation to continue. Work product from the trial belongs to Robust Engineering Services Ltd. upon payment.
